The Kitchen is Not a Room

Reflections on Life explores the concept of living as a field of research within interior design. Over the course of seven semesters, the series examines various everyday situations, activities and experiences, with Munich serving as the common field of study.

Tools for Food views the kitchen not as a rigidly defined space, but as a spatial practice of food preparation, cooking and shared dining. Taking various locations in Munich as their starting point, the students examined existing spatial qualities and materials. Through the analysis and reinterpretation of selected reference kitchens, they developed their own designs that reimagine everyday activities within new contexts and explore the potential of existing spaces.
